I’m Robin Custer
You are stronger than you know. Whatever you did to make it this far in life has worked; you are still here. Now let’s make being here rewarding and satisfying. Remember what it felt like when you couldn’t wait to get up in the morning because fun was just bound to happen? You can get that feeling back. Remember when you didn’t want to go to bed at night because you might miss out on something fun? You can get that feeling back too.
I’m a middle-aged woman with three main life goals: be kind, do good, and have fun. Sort of Mister Rogers-ish. Life can throw tough crap at you, and fixing it or working around it shouldn’t feel crappy too.
I believe we can learn and grow strong without misery, and have a good life with the love we need, and with more ease than pain.
I see my role as one of guide or helper, showing you how to find, build on, and use the strengths you already have. I won’t give you answers or tell you what to do; you’ve had enough of that in your life. I’ll help you find answers you already have, knowledge that’s already inside you. It’s there, I know it is. That sassy girl who knows what’s what: she’s in there too.
And when you don’t know what to do with your angry lost child, I’ll help you with that too. I work really well with scared and angry teens, helping communicate better, get along better, and have fun doing it. We’ll talk and create and work, just your child and me, building our relationship and trust. And you'll see progress in the strength of their connections to family and friends, their grades, moods, problem solving, and their growing capacity for family fun.
When you need help with your child's education, I'll do that as well. I advocate either behind the scenes by interpreting assessments and evaluations, reviewing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), and helping you prepare for meetings and conferences; or right along side you by actually drafting IEPs that include appropriate specially designed instruction, with needed accommodations, in the least restrictive environment possible, and even going with you to IEP meetings and conferences.
PS because this is important too
I hold all the appropriate certifications and degrees. My dedication to others has led to over 16 years of experience working with adults, families, and children as a court appointed special advocate (CASA), elementary and special education teacher, English as a second language (ESL) tutor, and counselor. I also facilitated the Supporting Parents of Autism (SPA) group at Washington State Autism Alliance & Advocacy.
I hold a Master of Social Work (MSW) from University of Southern California, Bachelor of Arts (BA) in English, Bachelor of Science (BS) in Education with Special Education Endorsement, and the Washington State counseling designation of Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker Associate (LICSWA).
I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation to make sure I am the right therapist for you. Call me when you're ready. Let's start the healing!
When you need me, I would be honored to speak with you.
